Deccan Park still shut despite Rs 3 crore rework

The facilities like toy train and swimming pool, installed in the park have deteriorated due to lack of maintenance.

Hyderabad: Deccan Park has remained closed for tourists for 15 years due to a land dispute with the local idgah. About Rs 3 crore was spent to develop the park.

Besides, there is an objection to its naming from the local politicians.

The park is spread over 30 acres of land and has a water fountain, swimming pool and toy train.

GHMC corporator Mohammed Mustafa said the park can be used for morning walks. “There is a community function hall within the premises of the park, that is can be used for functions, but the park is not open for any kind of visitors.”

Mr Mustafa said 70 per cent of the Idgah land was allegedly occupied by the GHMC to build the park.

The facilites installed in the park have deteriorated due to lack of use and maintenance.

Golconda sub-inspector P. Madhav said it was decided at a recent meeting that an entrance could be opened to the Qutb Shahi tombs through the park. There is a proposal to merge it with the tombs land for the benefit of tourists.
