Few homeowners give nod for Amberpet flyover

The flyover begins at the Golnaka Church and ends at Irani Hotel in Amberpet.

Hyderabad: Owners of a few properties in the path of the proposed Amberpet flyover have offered to surrender their buildings, allowing the GHMC to start finally start work. Of the 281 property owners from Golnaka Church to Irani Hotel on the Warangal Highway, 60 came forward after the GHMC doubled the compensation offer. A GHMC official said 30 owners had submitted relevant documents to the revenue department. Whenever they get clearance, the GHMC would demolish the properties and begin construction.

The flyover was first mooted to resolve traffic issues when then Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu used to visit the Doordarshan Kendra at Ramanthapur for his public interaction programmes. The MCH drew up estimates, found that it would cost Rs 70 crore and dropped the project. Recently, following an initiative of local MLA G. Kishan Reddy, Union minister Nitin Gadkari sanctioned Rs 240 crore for the flyover including Rs 100 crore for compensation.

Mr Kishan Reddy said the Centre had sanctioned funds towards compensation of those affected for the first time. Mr Kishan Reddy said that he had been doing the rounds of GHMC offices to speed up the land acquisition. “We have identified alternative roads for the traffic when the flyover will be constructed,” he said.
