AP lawyers demand for Advocates Protection Act

KAKINADA: All India Lawyers Union (AILU) state unit chief D. Rajagopal demanded the state government and the Centre to bring in the Advocates Protection Act and prevent attacks on advocates.

Participating as a chief guest at the sixth general body meeting of the AILU in the erstwhile East Godavari district on Saturday, Rajagopal said that the AILU was fighting for the rights of advocates in the country and had achieved many of its goals.

He requested the state government to sanction Rs.10,000 as stipend for junior advocates and Rs.15 lakh ex gratia for deceased lawyers. He also sought funds of Rs.25,000 to set up libraries and sanction sites to eligible advocates.

Rajagopal also urged the government to provide a stipend of Rs.8,000 per month to SC and ST advocates and fill up vacancies for the posts of judges and clerks in the judicial department.
