TN CM Stalin Must Talk to Karnataka Counterpart on Cauvery: EPS
Chennai: Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Edappadi K Palaniswami urged Chief Minister M K Stalin to immediately rush to Bengaluru and hold talks with his Karnataka counterpart, Siddharamiah, and his deputy D K Shivakumar to get Tamil Nadu’s share of water in the Cauvery.
In a statement on Saturday, Palaniswami recalled the steps taken by the AIADMK chief ministers of the past, including him, to get Tamil Nadu share of Cauvery water and said the since the Congress was an ally of the DMK, Stalin should negotiate with them and get due share to save the Kuruvai crop raised in 3.5 lakh acres in the Cauvery delta.
He said Karnataka should immediately release 86.380 TMC water for the State to honour its commitment on water sharing. Of the State’s total shortfall, 9.190 TMC water should have flown in during June, another 31.240 TMC in July and 45.950 TMC in August.
He accused the Chief Minister of enacting a drama by knocking on the wrong doors for water and said that he should directly negotiate with Karnataka.
