Visvesvaraya Technological University to act tough against exam cheaters
Bengaluru: The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has directed all its 218 constituent, autonomous and affiliated engineering colleges across the State not to give admissions to CBSE students booked under Unfair Means (UFM) Category to various undergraduate courses it offers to students.
Following written directions to vice-chancellor of VTU from Deputy Secretary of Central Board of Secondary Examination CBSE, New Delhi, Kavita Vazirani, the Registrar of VTU Prof A.S.Deshapande has instructed principals of all its engineering colleges not to give admissions to such students this year until they come clean on all the charges.
The CBSE had written a letter to VTU on August 2 directing it not to admit over 214 CBSE students whose names have been listed. These 214 students who had appeared for secondary school (class 10) and Senior School (Class 12) examination in the year 2018 were found to be using unfair practices and were booked for examination malpractices.
These students studied in different CBSE schools of New Delhi, Mysuru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Ajmer, Panchkula, Allahbad, Patna, Gawahati and other places.
They were booked under various charges of UFM category and punished for various kinds of examination malpractices like impersonation, copying, possession of copying material and decamping with answer books from the examination hall.
They were also found guilty of using obscene/derogatory language in the answer book as was reported by the examiner.
As per norms, a candidate found using unfair means or involved in disorderly conduct or disturbing other candidates, at or in connection with an examination is referred to the Unfair Means Committee.
The committee after consideration of the case as referred to it by instructor or invigilator can award punishment.
Recently, candidates found guilty of spreading misinformation about CBSE Board exam are also penalized by way of cancellation of exam paper or debarred from the examination altogether.
The CBSE which successfully conducted class 10 and 12 exams last year for over 31 lakh students across the country is acting tough on UFM students and is hence directing all varsities including VTU not go give admissions to such students, officials said.
