Hyderabad High Court seeks report on cleaning of lakes
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday directed the HMDA to file a feasibility report on cleaning of lakes by using geotube technology.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice S.V. Bhatt was dealing with the pleas by IPS officer Anjana Sinha, social activists Lubna Saraswath and Sudhakar, seeking protection of Malkam Cheruvu in Serilingampally.
Stating that there are only three companies in India that were using geotube technology to clean the sewerage, the bench felt that inviting global tenders would reduce the cost for cleaning the polluted lakes.
The bench directed the Pollution Control Board to test samples of water taken from Lotus Pond, Pedda Cheruvu of Khajaguda and Nacharam, Miralam tank and Rangadhamuni tank at Kukatpally and submit a report.
Directing the HMDA to submit satellite images of these five lakes along with another five lakes, the bench asked whether there were any shops on Necklace Road which sold necklaces.
The Chief Justice said, “While travelling in AC cars also we are affected by the bad odour on Necklace Road. Though there are some treatment plants, they are not functioning effectively.”
The bench adjourned the case to October 11.
