HC Quizzes GHMC, Cops on Vendor Policy
Hyderabad: Justice T. Vinod Kumar of the Telangana High Court directed the GHMC to explain its stance regarding street vendors at Raheja Mindspace. Gopi Ramu Chavan and four others had filed a writ petition stating that the Serilingampally zonal commissioner and the Raidurgam police station were not implementing the Street Vendors Protection of Livelihood and Regulations. Counsel for the petitioners contended that this was affecting the livelihood of the vendors who usually belong to the SC and ST communities. The court adjourned the matter to November 2.
Notice over fake Aadhaar claim
Justice S. Nanda of the Telangana High Court ordered notice to the authorities in a writ petition complaining of a land deal based on a fraudulent Aadhaar card. Farooq Ali Khan filed a writ petition complaining that a private respondent had on the basis of a false Aadhaar card taken steps to alienate the properties of their late father Nawab Mohd Haji Khan. The petitioner said the date of issue of the card was before the enactment empowering issuance of the cards. The petitioner prayed for an inquiry in this regard.
Udai Hosp. told not to allot 2 PG seats
A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court on Friday directed the management of Udai Omni Hospital and the medical counselling committee (MCC) to not allot two seats in PG courses. The bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar admitted a writ petition filed by Shreya Gudigar and Vinay Jesudas, challenging the action of the MCC in not issuing provisional allotment letter. The petitioners said they were allotted seats in orthopaedics at the Udai Omni Hospital but the management failed to upload the same in the list of selected candidates. The seats were reflected as vacant and allotted to other candidates. The petitioners said they could not be held responsible for the technical flaws of the management.
Elderly are also bound by law: HC
A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court on Friday observed that senior citizens were bound by the law of the land and the age alone did not carve out an exemption or exception. The bench refused to take on file a writ plea filed by Gaddam Balram who contended that by virtue of an order of the Debt Recovery Tribunal they were being evicted from the premises. The octogenarian petitioner pleaded ignorance of the proceedings leading to the eviction order. The bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar gave liberty to the petitioner to move to the DRT.
Explain illegal detention of suspect: HC
The Telangana High Court granted two weeks to the police to explain why they had taken a person into custody between October 1 and 6. The bench was dealing with a habeas corpus petition filed by B. Bindu, wife of Rajesh, complaining about her husband’s illegal detention by the Gopalpuram police. Counsel for the petitioner said that Rajesh received a call from the Gopalpuram inspector asking him to come to the police station. Bindu said he did not return, The government pleader said Rajesh would be remanded in the case of the murder of G. Anji Reddy, a film producer. The court directed the government to explain the reason for the illegal detention until he was remanded.
