Tamil Nadu: Wild Jumbo tramples shepherd woman to death in reserved forest
Krishnagiri: In a terrible tragedy, 70-year-old N. Narashamma of Kanganapuram village, near Thally, 25-km from Hosur of Krishnagiri district, was trampled to death by a wild jumbo. This incident came to light after her relatives went in search of her on Saturday night after the sheep taken for grazing by the woman returned home, but without her.
According to the Thally police, her relatives found the woman lying dead inside the reserved forest close to Kanganapuram where a herd of 20 elephants stayed at the place in Jawalagiri reserved forest. Investigations revealed that the old lady, who ventured into the forest for cattle grazing, was caught by the wild jumbo in the herd before knocking down Narashamma to the ground leading to her death.
This herd came here from the Bannarghatta wild life sanctuary in the neighbouring Karnataka in its migration towards Venkateswara wild life sanctuary in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh via Krishnagiri. Narashamma’s relatives handed over her body to the Thally police and that was sent to the Denkannikottai government hospital mortuary for completing the post-mortem procedure.
