Hyderabad: Man bends to pick up note, run over by bus
Hyderabad: In a freak accident, a man was was run over by an RTC bus when he bent down to pick up some loose change that fell from his pocket.
Police identified the victim as C. Srinivas, 31, a contract driver with the GHMC. He was returning home from Kurnool on Saturday and had disembarked at the Kacheguda railway station. From there, he took a bus (AP11 Z 6915) to go to his home at Borabanda.
At about 6 am, the bus reached Moosapet but Srinivas had fallen asleep and missed his stop. In a hurry, he collected change from conductor and asked the driver to slow down. As the bus slowed down, Srinivas jumped from the door, Sanathnagar inspector K. Chandra Shekar said.
This bus has only one door in the middle. “When he jumped, the money in his pockets fell on the road. He leaned forward to collect the change and the bus ran over him,” the inspector said.. He came under the rear wheels of the bus. The amount of money involved was less than Rs 10.
He said Srinivas was working as a driver with the GHMC. He is survived by his wife C. Sunitha and daughter Lekhana, 7.
On learning of the incident, Ms Sunitha and Srinivas’ colleagues rushed to the spot and staged a protest on the road along with the body, demanding immediate compensation.
Bus driver Venkatesh was booked under Section 304 A of IPC based on a complaint from Ms Sunita. He has been taken into custody for questioning for the investigation, said inspector Chandra Shekar.
