Guntur to get night food courts

Green parks, cycle tracks also to be built.

GUNTUR: Guntur will get a modern look with night food courts, skating rings, spacious green parks and cycling tracks. Guntur district collector K. Sasidhar directed the underground drainage contractors to complete their works at the earliest to avoid inconvenience to the public and to reconstruct roads after fixing UGD pipes. He inspected the progress of UGD works in various areas in Guntur on Tuesday. GMC commissioner Ch. Anuradha reviewed the works.

Mr Sasidhar said that pipelines were fixed in a stretch of 261 km against a target of 1,083 km in Guntur city. He said that the UGD works were likely to completed by 2018. He said he will inspect the works every Tuesday to expedite the project. He said permission was given to reconstruct new tar roads in a 56-km stretch where the pipeline installation works have been completed. About 84,000 chambers have to be constructed to the UGD pipelines to give drainage connections but only 800 chambers have been built so far. He directed the contractor and officials to construct 7,000 chambers per month to complete the works soon.

Later, the collector held a review meeting with the GMC officials and directed them to start night sanitation in the city and also to construct skating rings in three parks. Further, he directed them to start night food courts to give the city a modern look. He told the officials to construct separate bicycle tracks on the roads to promote cycling and further directed the GMC to appoint engineer rank officials to supervise the NTR stadium and NTR swimming pool. Ms Anuradha, GMC SE D. Marianna and other officials were present.
