KKNPP feeds 2,000 Mwe to grid in one day

The two units continued to be operating at its maximum generation capacity, have set a new national record.

TIRUNELVELI: The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) having two reactors of total installation capacity of 2,000 Mwe each, achieved its maximum power generation capacity on a day, the highest ever nuclear power supplied to the grid in the country from a single power station.

Sharing this jubilant achievement with media persons on Tuesday, S V Jinna site director (additional charge) of KKNPP said that the two reactors of 1000 Mwe each, together touched their maximum generation power at 3.30 am on December 5, 2017.

The two units continued to be operating at its maximum generation capacity, have set a new national record, as Jinna added, in the Indian nuclear power generation history, no other single power station has supplied so much of power to the grid at one go.

The KKNPP site director too added that the aggregate generation of the two units since they were synchronised to the southern power grid has so far been 20,862 million units.
