Collector bats for cleaner public places in Kozhikode city
Kozhikode: Though the city has many achievements to its credit, public spaces are to be cleaner, feels district collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao.
The new collector dreams to make the public spots including the city beach to be more people friendly and serene.
Mr Rao said it was high time the participation of more groups and NGOs with proven credibility ensured in the cleaning, supervising and maintenance of the public spots.
Places like the beach, Sarovaram Bio-Park, Mananchira where people come for morning or evening walk or leisure are to be cleaner.
"In Kozhikode, people are more active, and there are many organisations ready to chip in a significant share," he told Deccan Chronicle.
"I feel for every public space there can be a partner NGO or group of those who can conduct regular and scheduled cleaning activity. The government may put in some funds. But I suppose it would be nice if an NGO can adopt each spot."
The call from the district collector for the partnership comes at a time when people from various walks of life are crying for a cleaner beach and other spots.
The recently renovated South Beach, a major attraction for most of the city dwellers, lacks the essential security and cleanliness, say beach lovers.
