Kashmiri students in fee trouble
Hyderabad: Seven hundred and eighty four students from Jammu and Kashmir have not been able to pay their fees for distance education courses of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (Manuu) for the academic year 2019-20.
University officials say some of the students are still not reachable due to problems of connectivity, while others have stated that they do not have money to pay the fees.
Students have enrolled in Manuu from various parts of the country for courses in mass communication, science, social science and humanities. Mauu also offers post-graduate courses in the distance education mode.
Manuu officers in Jammu and Kashmir have in the last one month tried to reach out to 1,048 students in Jammu. Following this, 856 of them have paid their fee. The remaining 192 are yet to be contacted.
With regard to Kashmir, 1,149 of 1,747 students have paid their fee. 598 are yet to do so. A senior officer explained, “We sent out an alert to students in the first week of November. At that time, some of them got back saying they do not have money for paying the fee. We then asked them to pay a part of the amount,” he pointed out.
Distance Education Director Professor Abul Kalam said, “We want the students to complete their academic year. For this reason, we are trying to reach out and counsel them. Whenever there is a gap in the fee paid, we are trying to sort out the issue with help from others. It is the last semester for many of the J&K students,” Mr Kalam pointed out
The post-graduate course fee is Rs 4,800 per month. The fee for under graduate courses varies from Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000.
