Hyderabad: Youth Quake creates vibes
Hyderabad: Youth Quake, one of the largest students’ movements in the country, was trending on social media. Youth Quake addressed issues of students and the youths. National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) conducted it along with activists from progressive students’ organisations. Several NSUI leaders tweeted and retweeted #YouthQuake.
Leaders of the progressive students’ organisations sought reducing the minimum age for contesting the elections. They felt that students are being kept away from law-making currently. They also discussed student rights and the unemployment allowance.
According to the organisations, enacting a Student Rights Act will help in addressing issues related to disabled students and security of female students. They also recommended a national students right commission and a students’ court. They also wanted an unemployment allowance programme through the employment exchanges to reduce the burden of education loans.
Krishank Manne, a student leader from Osmania University who attended Youth Quake in Delhi said, ‘’Youth Quake is a positive initiative towards reforms in educational institutions. Universities should protect autonomy of students.
Students should have a separate court just like the family court, consumer court, etc. Unemployment allowance should be given within a time frame.”
