Telangana: Odiya teachers for freed kids from brick kilns
Hyderabad: 160 kids who were rescued from brick kilns in Choutuppal a month ago have reasons to cheer now. The kids, a majority of them under 13 hailing from Odisha, were initially admitted in nearby government schools, but Telugu became a big problem for them.
To their relief, Aide et Action, an NGO, working on migrant issues, came forward to help the kids to educate them in Odiya language. Earlier, teams from the Odisha child welfare department also visited the kids and submitted a report to the government. Rachakonda police said they are pursuing the matter with the collector for providing education to the kids.
Aide et Action regional manager Suresh Gutta said they have made a proposal to facilitate the education of the kids by arranging teachers from Odisha in coordination with their counterparts there. “We are willing to work with government agencies. We are ready to train teachers,” he said. Mr Suresh said the kids belonged to different parts of Odisha and they are selecting teachers from Odisha. The process will begin by February 15 and will continue till monsoon begins in Odisha. Usually, workers from Odisha who migrate to different parts of the country return during monsoon.
Police commissioner Mahesh Bhagawat said they are working with government agencies to provide education to the kids in Odiya. “The NGO will help by providing teachers and the administration will provide them accommodation and pay them. This is one step towards making Rachakonda child labour free,” he said.
