Khammam: Merged villages left high and dry this summer
Khammam: The drinking water problem in the merged villages of Khammam municipal corporation will not be solved before end of the summer.
The drinking water problems in the villages of—Ballepalli, Gudimalla, Pedathanda, Mallemadugu and other habitations have already begun.
Residents of these villages rely on private water supply. This summer, water from Mission Bhagiratha will not be given to these habitations.
Bhagiratha works in these villages are going on at snail’s pace. The construction of seven overhead tanks have yet to commence. Officials are facing difficult in acquiring land to undertake construction of these tanks.
There are 45,000 houses in these colonies and officials have been able to give connections to only 13,000 houses so far. Water supply will commence only after the completion of nalla connections to all the houses. Presently only 350 kms pipelines have been laid against the 490 kms. Work on the remaining pipeline is on.
The present Danavaigudem filter bed has been extending safe water only to 32,000 houses against the 64,000 in the erstwhile Khammam town.
The quantity of water supply is one crore liters for every alternative day. The supply is haphazard and not sufficient for the town.
There is no question of supply of water from Danavaigudem filter bed to the merged villages of KMC.
