War of words between Pondicherry LG, CS escalates
Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi continued to lash out against Union Territory's Chief Secretary for relieving Pondicherry Civil Service Officer R. Chandrasekaran of his duty as municipal commissioner and placing him under compulsory wait following speaker's ruling.
Continuing the war of words in Twitter on Thursday in the ongoing power tussle with the Congress-led government, Ms Kiran Bedi blamed Chief Secretary Manoj Parida for abetting an administration breakdown
"Despite my firm warning to the Chief Secretary by email not to rush the transfer order he did. He abetted an admin breakdown" tweeted Ms Bedi. She shared the copy of the email that has been sent to the Chief Secretary asking not to shift the official without the approval of the Lt Governor. The matter would be different if the instructions were followed, she added.
She suggested the officials seek legal clarification or opinion when there is a doubt. In her message to the public servants, the former IPS officer said that public servants must understand that their protection in the long run is the correct application of processes as laid down.
Attacking the Congress government the Lt Governor said that, like Delhi, Puducherry is also in need of a 'Shunglu' committee, which was set up by Delhi's former Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to scrutinise decisions taken by the Arvind Kejriwal government, has alleged "gross misuse of power" by it.
"Puducherry also needs a 'Shunglu Committee' to look into the way UT is being administered. Latest is 36.23 crores of PF of employees defaulted!" said Ms Bedi. Further clarifying her stand Ms Bedi said that though the Providence Fund (PF) amount is collected from the employees it was not deposited in their accounts.
"It's not only defaulted, it's collected but not deposited in the officer's account as reported by PF officers." she tweeted. Puducherry was witnessing a turf war between the Lt Governor and Chief Minister V Narayanasamy immediately after both of whom assumed office in May last year.
On Tuesday, a joint meeting of leaders and MLAs of Congress, DMK, opposition AIADMK (Amma) and other parties had resolved to send an all-party delegation to meet the President, the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to apprise them of the political situation arising out of rejection of transfer of the senior civil service official by Lt Governor .
