Couple from Salem seek police protection

In his complaint to the Salem commissioner, Ramachandran, said, my wife's uncles and close relatives threatened us to vacate the house.

SALEM: A couple in love who got married recently have sought protection from the Salem city police commissioner against threats to eliminate them by relatives on the girl's side and asking them to leave their native place.

Police said, Ramachandran, 28, of Periya Kondalampatti near Salem, married his neighbour, Megala, 20, following a love affair. The couple was initially accepted by the bride's family, but when they returned to their village, the bridegroom began getting threats from his wife's kin, he said.

In his complaint to the Salem commissioner, Ramachandran, said, “my wife's uncles and close relatives threatened us to vacate the house.” They even threatened they would be burnt alive if they continued to live in the village, Ramachandran said and urged the police to take legal action to help them return to their native village.
