Thanjavur: Ms. Vaishiya (17), daughter of Namburaj of Srinivasan Nagar, Nadiyammankoil street, Pattukottai, committed self-immolation by dousing her person with kerosene and setting fire to herself, unable to bear that she had not got the necessary cut off marks in the NEET 2019 examination for joining MBBS course on Wednesday.
Results of NEET were announced on Wednesday. Vaishiya got 230 out of 720. As she felt that this mark is far below the cut off for getting admission to medical, she allegedly poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze. An injured Vaishiya died on her way to hospital. Her body was sent to hospital for post-mortem.
