Thanjavur: CPM members held after demo against Central bills
THANJAVUR: The police registered cases against CPI (M) members who staged demonstrations at Thanjavur and Kumbakonam, protesting against what they alleged anti-people legislations by the BJP government at the centre on Tuesday.
They were protesting against Triple Talaq Act, National Security Act (amendment) and bills to form National Medical Commission and acts that took away rights of Labourers.
At Thanjavur the agitation held at railway station was led by N. Gurusamy, secretary of city corporation unit of the party. The police registered cases against 74 persons including 14 women.
Those who participated in the agitation include G. Neelamegam, district secretary of CPI (M), district executive committee members V.Jeevakumar, N.V. Kannan, S. Tamilselvi and district secretary of Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam affiliated to CPI(M) Sami Nadarajan.At Kumbakonam, the agitation was held before Gandhi park. Cases were registered against 32 persons.
Cases were also registered under section 143 (unlawful assembly) and 341 (prevention of performance of duty by Government servants). Police did not give permission for the agitation.
