Previous Congress Govt Neglected Railyway Infra: Shivraj
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said that the previous Congress government had neglected railway infrastructure in the state by denying adequate allocation for the sector.
Addressing a function at Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh organised on the occasion of foundation laying for redevelopment of 34 railway stations in the state, Mr Chouhan said that the rail, road and air networks have grown exponentially after the Narendra Modi government assumed office at the Centre.
The function was part of the foundation laying ceremony for 508 railway stations across the country by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing.
Mr Chouhan said that the state used to receive Rs 632 crore annually for development of railway infrastructure when the UPA government was at the Centre.
But, the allocation for the state has increased to Rs 13,607 crore in the 2023-24 railway budgets.
An allocation of Rs 982 crore was earmarked for the redevelopment of 34 railway stations in the state under the project.
Mr Chouhan said that India’s standing at the global level has grown under the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
The redevelopment plan envisages provision of modern passenger amenities along with ensuring well designed traffic circulation, inter-modal integration and well designed signage for guidance of passengers.
Khajuraho railway station is one of the 34 railway stations in Madhya Pradesh which is proposed to be redeveloped at a cost of Rs 260 crore under the project.
Khajuraho, famous for the architecturally rich temple of Khajuraho, attracts a huge number of tourists from India and abroad every year.
