2 Naxals killed in Chhattisgarh after opening fire on police

Three muzzle-loading guns, one 315 bore country-made revolver and a dump of Naxal bags and materials were found.

Raipur: Two Naxals were on Wednesday gunned down in an encounter with police in the dense forests of Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district.

"The encounter took place this afternoon near Telmendri village under Farsegarh police station limits between a joint team of police personnel and the ultras," Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, SRP Kalluri told PTI.

The team comprising personnel from Kutru and Farsegarh police stations, were conducting an anti-naxal operation in the core forest of the region, located around 450 kms away from Raipur, the IG said.

A group of armed Naxals opened indiscriminate fire on them close to Telmendri village following which an encounter broke out between both the sides that led to the killing of two ultras, he said.

During searches, bodies of the killed Maoists clad in "uniform" besides three muzzle-loading guns, one 315 bore country-made revolver and a dump of Naxal bags and materials of daily use including some mobiles were recovered from the spot, he said.

The identity of the killed Maoists was yet to be ascertained, the IG said, adding that further details are awaited as the operation was still underway.
