Coast Guard Rescues Stranded Fishing Boat, Crew off Visakhapatnam

Coast Guard ships and planes worked together to find the boat 83 miles from Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: The Indian Coast Guard ship Ayush conducted a successful rescue operation to assist the distressed fishing boat IFB Ganapathi Perumal and its 10 crew members, located 83 miles east of Visakhapatnam. Fishing boat Ganapathi Perumal (Manju Matha), had left from Kasimedu harbor in Tamil Nadu on August 24 but encountered a mechanical breakdown, drifting at sea since September 1. Coast Guard ships and planes worked together to find the boat 83 miles from Visakhapatnam.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Chennai sought the help from the nearby merchant vessel M.V. Jag Radha to monitor the fishing boat until the Coast Guard’s arrival. Ayush arrived at the scene early Wednesday and provided the necessary logistical and medical support. The Coast Guard then towed the boat to the nearest port, Vizag. On Thursday, the fishing boat and its crew were safely handed over to the fisheries department at Visakhapatnam, concluding the rescue operation.
