Telangana sits on 491 cases of corruption since 2014

A major concern is that the departments say that the files are yet to be received.

Hyderabad: The Vigilance and Enforcement wing had referred 491 cases of corruption from 2012 pertaining to officers from 30 departments in the TS Secretariat.

However, an RTI reply revealed that no action has been taken in any of the cases despite they being serious in nature. A major concern is that the departments say that the files are yet to be received, hence action against the accused is being delayed.

In an RTI reply, the assistant secretary to government and public information officer of health, medical and family welfare department said that out of 26 cases referred by V&E, 14 files have not yet been received. Reports on six cases are pending and for the remaining, inquiry officers have been appointed and for two, instructions have been issued to the commissioner to take action.

The cases referred by the V&E department include a scam of Rs 1.48 crore towards payment of pay and allowance of staff, adulteration of edible oil, illegally operating business etc.

After probe, files not reaching departments
Secretary of the Forum for Good Governance M. Padmanabha Reddy said, “The V&E department inquires into the corruption cases referred by the government and submits its reports department-wise after inquiries. Sometimes V&E takes up inquiries and sends alert notes to the departments.”

He said that after the departments receive V&E reports, they are expected to take action against the officer. Such cases being serious in nature, priority should be given to them and the case should be disposed of in a year.

“RTI applications reveal that in 30 departments in the Secretariat, during the last three years 491 were referred by V&E for action. In majority of the cases, the files sent by V&E did not reach the department; it means the files are missing or have been deliberately misplaced. Not taking action on V&E reports is encouraging corruption,” he said.
