Govt for quality healthcare: Pinarayi Vijayan

New block of Koyilandy hosp opened.

Kozhikode: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the government would provide quality medical care to all sections of people and that the best facilities would be provided at all hospitals, including primary health centres.

Inaugurating the new taluk headquarters hospital building of Koyilandy municipality here, Mr Vijayan said that not a single life should be lost due to the lack of medical support.

He said the government viewed with concern the high charges in private hospitals. The common people depend on government hospitals for affordable treatment and the doctors should not try to make money through illicit means, he said.

He wanted that a strict protocol should be followed for organ transplantations. Rural autonomous institutions and health workers should join hands against lifestyle and contagious diseases, he suggested. "Doctors should help in conducting awareness campaigns and the people should seriously take up environmental cleanliness," he said. In case of epidemics, the government would offer the best available treatment, he added.

The six-storey building was constructed at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Over 2,500 patients visit the hospital daily. The OP and casualty sections and the children's ward began functioning in the new building.

Health Minister K.K. Shailaja presided over the function. MLA K.Dasan welcomed the gathering and hospital superintendent Dr.Sachin Sabu proposed a vote of thanks.
