YouTube and Microsoft shun violent videos
Hyderabad: Two of the leading online service providers i.e. YouTube and Microsoft are trying to do their bit to clean up the online space by removing videos that could adversely affect young people.
This is particularly in the case of content that is meant for young people or that features children.
YouTube, one of the largest video sharing platforms in the world has been controversial for the accessibility of its videos to children and also the easy upload of any content. Generally videos are taken down from the site only if there is a copyright violation.
Rohith Samanth, a YouTube channel owner and a movie buff, says, “I have over 60k subscribers to my channel. Occasionally, a song video of mine is taken down by YouTube citing copyright violation. A stricter monitoring system would be good. This way, YouTube is monitoring the video one uploads and takes it down even before it is reported by someone.”
The new security policy of YouTube that was released in November is to proactively restrict content unsuitable for children less than 12 years of age, which includes violent shows, gross situations and any kind of abuse.
Some channels that have funny videos of children vomiting or of playful fights have reported that their videos were taken down. When the users tried to upload them again, they got a warning of permanent account deletion.
