Vijayawada: Municipal authorities sealed the principal’s room at the Government Polytechnic College on Thursday for alleged default on payment of Rs 6.3 crore property tax. The college has 1,530 students, including 368 girls in six branches.
On coming to know of the seizure, students staged a protest and demanded that the municipal officers go back. Student union leaders joined the protest and some students broke open the seal on the principal’s office.
Police entered the campus after the municipal officials called them in. The issue was temporarily resolved after local corporator Jasti Samba Siva Rao of the 8th division arrived at the spot and called the local MLA and MLC.
