Hyderabad: Anti-CAA JAC plans awareness drive
Hyderabad: January 25 has been declared as the Save Constitution Day’’ by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the CAA, NCR and NPR and a door-to-door awareness campaign will be carried out.
The campaign is to counter fears that are being created in the people that they will not get gas connections, school admissions and or be able to conduct their business if they do not participate in the National Register of Citizens and National Population Register process.
JAC convener Mustaq Malik explained, “People are worried that if they do not participate in the process their facilities will be taken away. We want to tell them that the government cannot do that. A population register is merely a number collection process. But this government has added an anti-constitutional clause where birth certificates must be shown. We only want people to resist and not participate in the process. Their basic rights will not be taken away by this.”
The members at various forums are urging the people not to participate in the process as the CAA is unconstitutional. Syed Ahmed, a businessman explained, “There is too much of confusion at the ground level. No one is clearly saying what is valid and what is not.”
The million march has created an awareness that there are people who can be approached for help and they will give them clarity. For this reason, the JAC is working out a module where people can be informed and when in doubt can contact them.
