53,000 Houses Ready for Poor Tribals Across Eight AP Districts Free of Cost

VIJAYAWADA: As many as 53,000 houses would be distributed to poor tribals across eight AP districts, free of cost, under the PMAY-Gramin scheme. These homes will be allotted on January 10 and the distribution’s formal launch will be done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 15.

This is over and above the grant of homes to 32 lakh mostly homeless people in the state under a plan floated by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The central-funded Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-G aims to speed up development of the ‘particularly vulnerable tribal groups’ (PVTGs) in the state. Under this, 98 mandals in eight tribal districts have been chosen for the implementation of the scheme.

The Chief Minister, meanwhile, concentrated his attention on his government’s flagship Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu mega housing programme. Under this, the construction of over 7.5 lakh houses was completed. These houses were handed over to the beneficiaries in 26 districts. The rest of the of houses under the state-level scheme are in various phases of construction.

The Chief Minister simultaneously gave priority to providing houses to PVTGs by taking advantage of the central scheme. As many as 53,000 houses have been readied for distribution to poor tribals, state housing department officials said.

They said the mission is focused on 11 critical interventions through 9 ministries. The ministry of tribal affairs under the Union government is the nodal agency overseeing this project in association with states.

With regard to AP, 12 PVTG sub-castes are covered under the PM Janman Scheme meant for 75 sub-castes across the country. Out of 11 critical interventions, providing pucca houses under PMAY-G is the main endeavour. Under this, 4.90 lakh beneficiaries will be provided pucca houses. Each unit cost '2.39 lakh to particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) living in kutcha houses, under PMAY Gramin programme during the 2023-24 to 2025-26 term.

Eight districts - Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Eluru, Palnadu, Prakasam and Nandyal - involving 98 mandals dotted with 1,041 gram panchayats will see the 52,907 households becoming proud owners of their own houses.

The ITDAs covered are Seethampeta, Parvathipuram, Paderu, Rampachodavaram, Chintur, KR Puram and Srisailam.

The survey and identification of PVGT households (HH) began on January 5. The finalisation of the eligible PVGT HHs list and registration of details of the beneficiaries identified through the Awaas Plus survey app, including their bank account details, have been done.

Special chief secretary to housing, Ajay Jain, said PVTG HHs were identified in eight districts namely Alluri Sitarama Raju (31,716), Parvathipuram Manyam 9,904, Prakasam 2,515, Nandyal 1,944, Srikakulam 3,366, Palnadu 1,345, Eluru 808 and Vizianagaram 498.

Out of the total 52,907 households, surveys on 39,005 families were conducted and a balance 13,091 HHs remained to be surveyed for obtaining their personal details. Some 17,181 bank accounts and Aadhaar links were verified in the survey.

Deputy CM and minister for tribal welfare P. Rajanna Dora said Jagan Mohan Reddy is the only CM arduously working to provide as high as 32 lakh houses to the homeless and facilitating distribution of homes to 53,000 tribals under the central scheme.
