CJAR supports Justice Chelameswar
New Delhi: The Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms (CJAR) comprising jurists on Tuesday supported Justice Chelameswar’s timely note, criticising the non elevation of Justice K.M. Joseph, Chief Justice of the Uttrakhand HC, to the Supreme Court.
The CJAR said that as a member of the Supreme Court collegium, while Justice Chelameswar has not disagreed with the names of the five other judges that have been proposed for elevation to the Supreme Court, his criticism that Justice Joseph has been sidelined, is right and justified.
Justice Chelameswar had attended the collegium meeting headed by Chief Justice of India J.S. Khehar to pick up four High court Chief Justices and one HC judge for elevation to the apex court. He was also part of the collegium which recommended appointment of nine Chief Justices to different High Courts.
