O Panneerselvam should take back his resignation: Tamilisai Soundararajan

She said there was no need for him to wait as he had been the natural choice of Jayalalithaa.

Chennai: Contending that Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam should have resisted attempts to dethrone him at the first instance, the BJP on Tuesday night said he should withdraw his resignation and end political instability in Tamil Nadu.

“He should not have resigned. He should have remained firm. He is not an ordinary person, he should have resisted attempts to stage a coup and safeguarded his party's interest as former Chief Minister J. Jayalaithaa had reposed faith on him,” BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said.

Reacting to Mr Panneerselvam's disclosure that he was forced to step down and that he was willing to stage a come back if the people wished, she said there was no need for him to wait as he had been the natural choice of Jayalalithaa.

“Late CM Jayalalithaa chose him during crisis and her choice never went wrong. He has proved that he can perform by overcoming two major challenges — the Marina protest and the Vardah cyclone. I appreciate his good work,” she said and added that “people rejected the corrupt and dynastic rule and gave a mandate for Jayalalithaa and her AIADMK. He should become CM again if he wants to continue the good rule of his leader who trusted him so much.”
