Hyderabad police seizes Rs 4.9 crore in two days

On Sunday, the Central Zone Task Force and the Banjara Hills police seized Rs 1 crore cash from a car.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad city police seized about Rs 4.92 crore in eight police station limits over the weekend. Some of the cash was meant to be distributed to people to influence the voting pattern, police said.

On Sunday, the Central Zone Task Force and the Banjara Hills police seized Rs 1 crore cash from a car. Police said that on receiving credible information, they intercepted the vehicle near Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital on Road No. 10, Banjara Hills. The driver has been identified as Boddupalli Seenaiah, 41.

According to Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar, Seenaiah has revealed that the cash was being taken to the Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency on the instruction of one Jayaveer Reddy. He said the cash and vehicle have been seized and handed over to the Banjara Hills police. Since the cash was more than `10 lakh, it will be handed over to the income tax department.

Also on Saturday, the North Zone Task Force and the Malakpet police intercepted a car (TS11 EN 5268 at Moosarambagh Hyderabad) and found that two persons transporting Rs 34.3 lakh. They were identified as Kashinath Reddy, 46 and driver Bhukya Ravi, 37. They claimed the money was being transported to the Malkajgiri constituency to distribute to booth-level committee members to bribe voters.

On Sunday, the West Zone Task Force and the Banjara Hills police seized Rs 1 crore that was being carried by a person in an MUV that was intercepted near a super market on Banjara Hills Road No. 14. The person carrying the cash, M, Krishna Murthy, 40, a private company employee, failed to provide documents to support the cash.

Following this, the car and the cash were seized. The money will be handed over to the I-T department for further investigation.
