BRS to fight against VSP's privatisation, says its AP chief
Visakhapatnam: AP BRS chief Dr. Thota Chandrasekhar said his party will fight against the privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. In this regard, Chandrasekhar will be arriving in Visakhapatnam on Saturday and meet leaders of Steel Plant Porata Samithi on Monday, April 10.
The AP BRS chief said the Modi government is planning to handover the shore-based steel plant to his friends Adani and Jindal on a platter.
He charged that Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the holding company of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, has been purposefully pushed into losses since 2014. The company had partially recovered in 2014 and as on date its turnover is over Rs 30,000 crore.
“BJP government at the centre is not showing any interest in the company’s revival. On the other hand, the state government is remaining a silent spectator,” Chandrasekhar observed.
He maintained that only BRS has opposed the central government for inviting expressions of interest for taking over the steel plant. Further, Telangana minister K.T. Rama Rao has written a strong letter opposing the privatisation., The BJP has no guts for replying to the letter, he stated.
The AP BRS chief said more than the steel plant, private bidders are interested in the open lands worth Rs 3 lakh crore that belong to the VSP. Adani is in the forefront of acquiring the steel plant only to acquire these valuable lands, he observed.
Chandrasekhar said an action plan will be drawn after talking to trade union leaders spearheading the movement against VSP’s privatisation.
