Minister Tanveer Sait's men confine journalist for 30 minutes

Tanveer Sait's supporters attack journalist in Mysuru.

Mysuru: The reporter of a national daily, Mr Shivendru Urs was reportedly stopped from covering the campaign of primary education minister Tanveer Sait by Congress workers at Gayathripuram in Narasimharaja constituency on Monday.

Mr Shivendru in his complaint to Chief Electoral Officer Mr Sanjiv Kumar, said, “Supporters of Mr Sait led by Congress worker Shivalingappa stopped and threatened me with dire consequences for covering Mr Sait’s campaign. Though I told them that I was only doing my duty as a journalist, they dragged me and illegally confined me in a room at a nearby house for about 30 minutes. They even did not allow me to use my phone to talk to my colleagues.

Later Mr Sait spoke to me for 30 minutes and asked me why our newspaper carried an article on SDPI candidate Abdul Majeed and accused the newspaper of supporting SDPI . Though I told Mr Sait that as journalists, it was our job to report on all parties, he refused to budge and gave me a long lecture on journalism ethics," he stated.
