Vacant posts derail English medium plans in Khammam
Khammam: The vacant mandal education officer posts have become a hurdle to the government plan of implementing English as the medium of education in 600 schools from this academic year.
Following the directions of the higher officials in the education department, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan officials planned to introduce English medium in 600 primary schools the of 3,479 schools in the district.
Tentatively, it was decided to start teaching in English to Classes 1 to Classes V in these schools. These schools were to be identified during the on-going Badi Baata programme. However, officials hit upon a roadblock while trying to implement their plans in the form of the teachers’ skills.
While a majority of the teachers’ lack fluency in English, the problem is compounded since the officials have to work in the agency area. The other problem is the vacant MEO posts. As many as 37 MEO posts in the 41 mandals are vacant.
The MEOs will be aware of the calibre of the English teachers and once identified, these teachers can be posted in these schools. These problems are leaving the officials at their wits' end on how to implement the government directives.
