Monsoon hits Rayalaseema, Nino ruled out
Visakhapatnam: The south-west monsoon finally set in over parts of Rayalaseema and Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) updated the amount of rainfall expected to be received by the south peninsula to 99 per cent in its long range forecast update for the south-west monsoon seasonal rainfall 2017 on Tuesday. This comes as a good news for the region.
Dr K. Nagaratna, the head of weather forecasting at the Meteorological Centre, has ruled out the possibility of El Niño conditions developing in the south-west monsoon. The IMD predicts that many parts of the state will receive light to moderate rains in the next three to four days, and some isolated regions will receive heavy rains. No station in AP recorded a maximum temperature higher than 40 degrees Celsius.
Heavy rain alert for Telangana, AP from today:
The states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been issued a rain warning by the local weather bureau. Districts across the two states are expected to receive heavy rainfall from June 8 to June 12. These are not south-west monsoon showers but are pre-monsoon showers. Moderate to heavy rainfall was reported in many districts across the two states on June 7. Meanwhile, the south-west monsoon further advanced into parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
In Hyderabad, there was a drastic drop in day temperatures on Wednesday. The maximum temperature recorded was 33 degrees Celsius. This is the lowest that the temperature has been in months. Meanwhile, there was an appreciable rise in temperature in various parts of Telangana.The highest maximum temperature, 42 degrees Celsius, was recorded at Nalgonda.
