Hyderabad HC orders internal exams for general surgery to be cancelled
Hyderabad: Finding fault with the action of the NTR University of Health Sciences for changing internal examiner succumbing to pressure from students of PG Medical (General Surgery) for internal examinations, the Hyderabad High Court on Friday passed orders cancelling internal examinations held from May 29 to June 1, 2017.
Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, while allowing a petition by Dr Deen Dayal Bung professor and head of the department of general surgery of Osmania Medical College, quashed the orders issued by the university appointing another professor to replace the petitioner.
The judge directed the NTR university to appoint another team of internal examiners with Dr Deen Dayal Bung as one of them and to complete the internal examination process within four weeks from today.
While allowing the petition, the judge observed that if the students can decide how the examination are be held, then it will create chaos in the education profession.
The judge said that it is the duty of the vice-chancellor to maintain educational standards and to uphold the dignity of the teaching profession as a whole. In the present case the VC has totally abdicated his responsibilities.
Dr K Lakshmi Narasimha, Counsel for the petitioner submitted that earlier the varsity had nominated the petitioner as examiner along with three other professors, but suddenly the vice chancellor of the varsity changed his mind succumbing to the pressure from the students and replaced the petitioner with Dr A. Srinivasa Chary.
He said Osmania Medical College also sent request to the Vice Chancellor to reinstate Dr Deen Dayal Bung, in the larger interest of Teaching Profession.
