NRIs help to develop smart classrooms in AP
Vijayawada: Voluntary organisations and NRIs are coming forward to promote government schools and making contributions to give these schools a facelift.
NRIs, who supported the government with AP Janmabhoomi to establish smart classrooms in 1,500 schools last year, are now focused on equipping 630 schools across the state in second phase.
Majority of corporate and private schools adopted smart classroom method years ago and government schools were still lagging behind.
Special representative of Andhra Pradesh government at North America Komati Jayaram and a team of volunteers are monitoring a project in which NRIs are contributing to establish smart classrooms on 70:30 basis.
“Telugu people living abroad were passionate to do something for their motherland and each smart class was costing around Rs 1.5 lakh. NRIs were contributing $750, which is equal to Rs 45,000, and government is bearing remaining Rs 1,05,000 in arranging smart classrooms,” Mr Jayaram said.
He said special measures were taken to satisfy the donors and special interactive system and monitoring was done.
Special care was taken in designing the content and NRI volunteers were provided internship in educating children, he added.
