Crucial BJP Meeting in City Today, 11 State Chiefs, Nadda to Attend

Hyderabad: The BJP headquarters in the city will host a meeting with party heads of 11 states that is to be chaired by party national president J.P. Nadda here on Sunday. The Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Bhavan was abuzz with activity on Saturday evening with all senior leaders of the party, including BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy, his predecessor Bandi Sanjay Kumar and election in-charge Prakash Javadekar arriving to hold a crucial preparatory meeting ahead of Sunday’s event.

Saturday was the first time that Kishan Reddy arrived at the party headquarters as state BJP chief, and Sanjay as the former state unit president, triggering excitement among the hundreds of party supporters and workers who gathered at the office. Also attending the preparatory meeting were party vice-president D.K. Aruna and senior leader Dr K. Laxman.

The BJP is holding its all-important meeting of heads of party units from the southern states as well as other states that will go to the polls in the next one year, in Hyderabad on Sunday.

While Nadda will chair the meeting, those in attendance will include party national general secretary and election committee co-incharge Sunil Bansal, general secretary and Telangana in-charge Tarun Chugh, and senior national leaders including Vivek Menon, and several others.

Sunday’s meeting, the party officials said, will be in camera and that deliberations will not be open to the media. The party, BJP leaders said, chose to hold the meeting in Hyderabad to stress the importance it accords to Telangana as its potential gateway to power in the southern states. It Telangana as the best possible prospect to establish a beach head in the south by winning the Assembly elections later this year.

The meeting on Sunday will take stock of election preparedness of the party’s 11 state units and the steps to be taken to identify weak spots and take action to plug gaps in its poll preparation.
