UPCL corruption: PMO takes note of AAP complaint

The Aam Aadmi Party has alleged violation of government procurement rules in the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited.

Dehradun: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has taken cognisance of a written complaint lodged by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleging corruption in Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), the AAP said on Monday.

"Taking note of our complaint addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding corruption in UPCL, the PMO has forwarded it to the state government for necessary action," AAP's state working committee president Anoop Nautiyal told the reporters.

The letter alleging corruption in the UPCL was sent to the PMO by Nautiyal on August 1. It said the bids for an order worth Rs 240 crore were opened on separate dates, resulting in violation of government procurement rules.

Rejecting UPCL's argument that the bids were opened on separate dates due to 'technical glitches', the AAP leader asked why the bids were not cancelled and the process started afresh.

Previously, the CAG had also pulled up the UPCL on the same issue. Nautiyal's letter of complaint was forwarded to the state government on August 3 through Government of India's portal named Centralised Grievance Redress and Monitoring system.

Nautiyal said his party will soon take steps to expose corruption in other government departments like education, health and transport.
