Hyderabad: Check posts to prevent illegal cattle trade ahead of Bakrid

Hyderabad: The city police has established check posts on entry points to prevent the illegal transportation of cattle to the city ahead of Bakrid. Police is monitoring vehicular movement round the clock to prevent smuggling of livestock so as to ensure peaceful conduct of Id-uz-Zuha celebrations.

The check posts will be in place till the festival, an official said. Police is also patrolling in the localities to check the illegal sale of cattle for sacrifice in dense localities. Police is searching suspect premises to ensure that all animals have the mandatory certificates for the cattle meant for sacrifice. A police official said, "We said we will not allow anyone to seize cattle or take the law into their hands."

Shainayatgunj police station assistant sub-inspector V. Ravindra Reddy, who was on duty at a check post at the Muslimjung bridge, said the West Zone Police had established 13 check posts. "We are verifying the documents for transportation of livestock. In case we found even a calf, bull or buffalo in a truck we shift the vehicle to Vanasthalipuram, where veterinary doctors check the health of the cattle and their age.”
