Telangana first in India in recovering lost mobile phones
Hyderabad: The Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal has helped the Telangana Police to track 68% of lost or missing mobile phones. With this Telangana stands first in the country in the recovery of stolen/missing cell phones. Karnataka is in the second position with a 54% recovery rate while Andhra Pradesh is in the third position with 51%.
State DGP Anjani Kumar congratulated the nodal officer ADG CID and the team for coordinating with DOT Hyderabad to make the state top.
"We remain committed to serve the society in a better way. Also congratulations to CP Cyb, CP Hyd , CP Rchk, CP Wrgl, CP Nzb," said Anjani Kumar.
The DoT-developed CEIR portal, which is intended to help curb the theft of mobiles and counterfeit mobiles, began its Telangana services on April 19 this year. Nearly 60 personnel were provided training and CEIR user IDs were distributed to all 780 police stations under 31 police units.
Telangana state was selected for the pilot project of the portal, which was initially guided by S.M. Vijay Kumar from the intelligence department.
According to the data, CEIR has helped trace more than 1,000 lost or missing mobiles in the first month of its launch and another 1,160 mobiles in 25 days.
