Hubballi: The heavy rainfall in the Mahabaleshwar and Konkan regions of Maharashtra has led to the Krishna river and its six tributaries overflowing once again in the Mumbai-Karnataka region.
As many as seven bridges and several temples have been submerged in Belagavi and Bagalkot districts and many villages situated on the banks of the rivers have remained cut-off, badly inconveniencing students and other commuters.
Flood water has surrounded a private school on the outskirts of Ramdurg and the rising Malaprabha river is expected to flood many more areas of the town.
Traffic heading for Jamkhandi town in Bagalkot district has been badly hampered by the bridge at Shurpali and Jambagi going under water and the overflowing rivers are posing a huge threat to crops in the region too.
Among the temples that have gone under water are the Bengali Baba temple in Karadaga village of Nippani taluk, and the Dattatreya temple in Kallol village of Chikkodi taluk.
Meanwhile, the bridge connecting Gotur village in Hukkeri taluk to Naganur village in Kolhapur district in Maharashtra has been submerged due to the overflowing Hiranyakeshi river. And the bridge in Yadawad village and the Hole Basaveshwar temple in Machakanur village, Mudhol taluk have also gone under water with the Ghataprabha river overflowing.
With the inflow of water into the Almatti reservoir in Vijayapur district increasing to 1,31,327 cusecs on Saturday, as much as 1.50 lakh cusecs were released from it during the day, leading to more fears of flooding in the villages nearby.
