Telangana: Teething trouble for new districts
HYDERABAD: Initial hiccups await the Telangana government’s move to kick-start administration in the reorganised districts from Dasara.
Due to shortage of senior officials to be tasked with district head of department responsibilities, mostly second rung, and in some instances, third rung cadre are being elevated. In a normal scenario, officials of joint director cadre would be holding these key posts. With each district, barring Hyderabad, being carved in-to two to four districts, finding suitable staff to head various departments like agriculture, planning, medical & health, and welfare has become a big task.
Since officials within the district have to be accommodated in the new districts, deputy director and assistant director cadres officials are being elevated as district heads. Experts foresee initial hiccups due to inexperienced officials at the helm of affairs.
