Bhopal: An old woman in a Madhya Pradesh town was brutally assaulted by members of a family “for not selling her land to them”, police said on Monday.
A video showing the 65-year-old woman, a vegetable vendor, being beaten with sticks by family members of one Lakhan Upadhyaya in the local market has gone viral, prompting the police to register a case in connection with the incident.
According to the police, the victim, Benibai Kushwaha, was attacked by the some family members of Lakhan Upadhyaya with sticks in the market in district headquarters of Chhatarpur on Sunday afternoon for selling her lands to others, not to them. Benibai received bleeding injuries on her head and was rushed to the nearby hospital.
Incidentally, no one dared to come to her rescue as the goons were showering blows on her.
“Four people have been booked in connection with the incident”, local police said.
