Visakhapatnam Port to Develop Maritime Heritage Complex
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) Chairman Dr. M. Angamuthu announced on Saturday that the Authority will soon develop a Maritime Heritage Complex (MHC) in Visakhapatnam City.
The MHC will be accessible to the citizens of Visakhapatnam city and will feature a digital library, a cafeteria, and a pleasant ambience for research. It will house all the 90 years of heritage items, photos, and antique items depicting the port's journey. The MHC will also have a Port Waterfront Area and a walkway from the newly developed Vizag International Cruise Terminal to the temple on Ross Hill, offering views of ship movements and allowing the public to experience the port's operations.
In his keynote address on the occasion of the port's 90th formation day, the Chairman also spoke about the port's development plans. He said that the port currently has a capacity of 135 MTPA and is now focusing on improving its evacuation and mechanisation systems. The port will also be tying up with the Skill Development Council to upgrade the skills of its employees.
Dr Angamuthu further informed that the port has prepared Maritime India Vision 2030 and Vision 2047, which will be deliberated with stakeholders and their suggestions incorporated.
All the speakers at the event shared their good experiences and memories with the port, appreciated the Chairman's efforts for the initiatives that are in the pipeline, and expressed their willingness to associate with the MHC project.
