Kerala Gazetted Officers' Union showcase rare old pics of national leaders
Kozhikode: The district conference of Congress supported Kerala Gazetted Officers' Union (KGOU) will showcase rare old pics of national leaders including Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.
As many as 200 black and white photos would be displayed here next week at Hotel Nalanda titled Desathinte Poraalikal, Desheeyathayudeyum.
“The purpose is to remind the young generation about the contributions of our great leaders at a time when rulers are trying to distort history," said KGOU district secretary P. Beena.
The visuals include that of Gandhi sleeping on the floor, Gandhi's London visit, a picture of Nehru with Einstein, Nehru playing with kids and Indira Gandhi in a playful mood with granddaughter Priyanka among others. The images include those taken by the renowned photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson.
“The pics are from the political as well as personal life of these great personalities. A majority of the images were collected from various photo agencies and archives on request. British websites provided visuals of Gandhi's London visit,”says Sajid Ahmed Ekkatur, the coordinator of the photo exhibition.
It also features images of several state leaders like K. Kelappan and Mohammed Abdurahiman Sahib.
The captures of many unknown freedom fighters will also adorn the two-day exhibit, which Dr Arsu will open on December 15 evening.
