Kanthi Rana is new Commissioner of Police of Vijayawada
VIJAYAWADA: Kanthi Rana Tata took charge as the new Commissioner of Police here on Wednesday. He said the police would give top priority to resolving traffic woes, elimination of illegal ganja transportation, curbing rowdy menace and protection for women.
He earlier worked as deputy police commissioner and joint commissioner. Thereafter, he was posted at Anantapur as DIG. He takes the place of outgoing police commissioner B Srinivasulu.
Kanthi said he is well-aware of the traffic problems here and would work for better traffic management. A meeting will be convened soon with police officials and work on repair of traffic signals will be taken up.
Referring to the blade batch and ganja cases, he said, “I will try to motivate anti-social elements to change their mindset and be law-abiding.”
Special emphasis will be given to the safety of women, children and the elderly. The police would adopt a people-friendly policy, he said and thanked chief minister Jagan and DGP Gautam Sawang for appointing him as the commissioner at Vijayawada.
