Garbage problem at Madhuranagar
Vijayawada: Madhuranagar has become a mini dump yard in recent times. The sanitation workers of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation are dumping the garbage collected from the colony in the vacant land in first lane of Pasuputhota near the water tank. This practice has started about two months ago and the locals have lodged numerous complaints with the VMC.
The complaints of the locals were unheard by the VMC and the vacant land at the water tank is always filled with filth. The locals have even protested when Member of Legislative Council Buddha Venkanna visited the colony as part of the ongoing Janmabhoomi. K. Bapanaiah, a resident of the colony, has said that the stinking smell of the garbage is unbearable.
He said that the place where the garbage is being dumped has bec-ome a breeding ground for mosquitoes. “The mosquitoes literally clo-ud over us after 6 pm,” he said. Madhuranagar Colony has developed very fast in the recent years and many people have either bought flats or built their own houses.
Pasuputhota and Kobbarithota areas have witnessed huge housing activity. “Garbage collection is the major problem in our colony from the beginning,” said another local K. Krishna Kanth Sarma.
The colony was developing rapidly but the services by the VMC were deteriorating, he added. Another problem that many locals complained about is that of petrol theft during night from parked vehicles.
Some people park their vehicles outside their houses and they have noticed that they are losing petrol from their vehicles. Even those who park their vehicles inside also complained about the problem and the locals are asking for increased patrolling in their area.
