Palakkad: Women held for mosque entry bid
Palakkad: Six members of Hindu Makkal Katchi including three women who were on their way to Vavar Mosque in Eurmeli near Sabarimala were arrested and remanded by Kozhinjampara Police here.
The have been slapped with IPC 153 A for trying to create communal rift. The team was taken into custody at Velanthaval-am on Monday afternoon and after registering their arrest they were produced before the Chittur Magistrate at 1 am on Tuesday.
The team had plans to enter the main hall of the mosque to offer prayers where the Sabarimala pilgrims usually do not enter, Kozhinjampara SI Manoj K Gopi said.
They have been remanded for 14 days. Even though the mosque official had made it clear that they had no issues with the women entering the mosque like any other Sabarimala pilgrim and offering prayers by circumabulating the mosque, Palak-kad SP Debeshkumar Behera said that there was a complaint over the move of the six-member team visiting the mosque. A person named Mohan, a resident of Kozhinjampara had filed a complaint saying that the group of six were trying to create communal enmity, it is learnt.
Women arrested and remanded are Sushila Devi (35) and Revathi (39) of Kumaranthur in Tiru-pur and Gandhimathi (51) from Thirunelveli.
Tirupathi (50) of Kam-bitti colony in South Coi-mbatore, Murugaswamy (75) of Ramiah colony, Mettupalayam, and Senthil Kumar (31) driver from Aruvilinagar Kuzhipatti in Tirupur have also been remanded.
